The St. Maries Trap Shooting Club participated in the Idaho Trap Shooting State Tournament in Kuna, ID on June 13-14. St. Maries took five qualifying students; two boys and three girls. Twelve other high school teams participated in the tournament, bringing in nearly 100 student athletes.
The club, which practices at the St. Maries Gun Club, extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Gun Club members as well as CCI/Speer for its generous donations. CCI/Speer graciously donated ammunition along with five Savage shotguns.
The substantial contribution helped reduce costs for participating families, making the sport more accessible.
“The connection began when Aamber Hale, a parent volunteering with the Shooting Club, reached out last year,” said Michelle Garrison, Programs & Contributions Administrator at CCI/Speer. “Aamber indicated that St. Maries was starting to get kids involved and wanted to expand the program.”
Garrison was moved by stories of kids borrowing their grandpa’s guns. These shotguns were too big and too heavy, but the kids were determined to shoot. While CCI/Speer often donates shotshells to surrounding schools, donating guns is uncommon.
“Aamber inspired us with the stories of their commitment to shoot and stay in the program with any gun,” said Garrison.
Along with Garrison, Tiffany Kennedy, Company Store Lead, and Terry Roberts, Engineering Manager, transported the ammunition and five shotguns to the St. Maries Gun Club in late May. They were greeted with gratitude from the kids and parents of the St. Maries Gun Club.
Roberts practiced with the shooters.
“It’s so important to expose the upcoming generation to shooting sports, teaching them safe and responsible handling while helping preserve the tradition,” he said. “We’re proud to support programs like this that foster a lifelong appreciation for the sport.”
