CCI/Speer has been actively volunteering at the Boys & Girls Clubs, using their culinary talents to prepare hundreds of grilled cheese sandwiches for the Valley Clubs over the years. The team is proud to be among the longest-serving and most dedicated grilled cheese cooking teams.
Grilled cheese sandwiches hold a special place in the hearts of the children at the clubs. They serve as a delicious after-school snack that the kids eagerly anticipate. Depending on the day, between 150-200 children are served.
Teams of 2-3 people gather for about an hour to do the prep and cooking of the sandwiches, including buttering, adding cheese, and grilling the sandwiches. Then the magic touch: the diagonal cut, referred to as “the club way!” Volunteers are aware they will get called out for cutting them wrong or burning them.
The clubs serve approximately 35,000-45,000 grilled cheese sandwiches each school year.
Departments that have recently generously donated their time to grill for the children include Finance, Centerfire Assembly, Primers, Primer Metal Parts, Chemistry, Speer, Centerfire Metal Parts, Continues Improvement, Sales, Engineering, Customer Service and Operations.
